Location

The Campsite is located near to the villages of Thornthwaite and Dacre situated in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The campsite is available for use by Scouts, Guides and other youth organisations as well as school groups

Facilities

There are 11 camping sites available spread over approx. 15 acres, with room for up to 120 campers in total. The site is ideally suited to patrol or lightweight camping due to the ruggedness of the grounds.

In addition there is a Yorkshire stone purpose-built Centre with full facilities for self-catering.  The Centre can sleep up to 38 in bunk bed accommodation using assorted room sizes and is hired in its entirety.

Activities

The site can be used for a wide-range of self-led activities, or you can make use of local instructors.

On-site activities include:

  • Traversing Wall
  • Pioneering
  • Wobble Pole
  • Archery
  • Tomahawk Throwing
  • High ropes

Wildlife @ Thornthwaite

Thornthwaite is a haven for wildlife. Bob Elliot, a member of the District's Scout Active Support team maintains a number of wildlife and trail cameras around the site.
