Overview
All volunteers who are a member of a District Team are eligible for a District Microsoft Office 365 Account. This provides access to the web versions of all the major Office applications like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Sway, Forms and Planner, and desktop clients for Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, and OneDrive.
When you are setup with an Office 365 account you will receive an email that will contain your login credentials. The password supplied will need to changed when you log in for the first time and you are encouraged to setup multi-factor authentication on your account. The steps to do this are outlined below.
- Navigate to https://portal.office.com and you should see a sign-in page similar to the one below. Enter your @harrogatescouts.org.uk email address and click the "Next" button.
- Enter your password and click the "Sign In" Button. At this point you should see a page similar to the one shown below, asking you to change your password.
- Enter the current password you were provided with and then choose a new password. Having chosen your new password click the "Sign In" button. The following page will be displayed. This is the start of the Multi-factor authentication setup. Click the "Next" button.
- On the next page you will be asked to download the Microsoft Authenticator Application to your smartphone. If you already have the application on your smartphone you can click the "Next" button to continue. If not, download the application from the App Store or Google play store and once you have done this click the "Next button
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator App on your smartphone and tap the "+" symbol in the top right hand corner of the screen. A screen similar the to screenshot below should be displayed. Tap the "work or school account" option
- You will then be given the following options. "Choose Scan QR Code"
- Sign In
- Scan QR Code
- Cancel
- This will switch on the camera on your smartphone. Going back to your computer, click the click "Next" again until you reach the page which displays the QR code (similar to the page shown below) and scan the QR code with your phone.
- Once you have successfully scanned the QR code and added it to your phone. The page on your browser should update to show something similar to the one below. You will need to type the number into the authenticator app on your phone
- Having entered the number shown on screen into the authenticator app the browser should update again and display the following page:
- Click "Next" and you should then see the "Success" page. You have now successfully set up multi-factor authentication on your District Office 365 Account. When you log in to Office 365 in the future, the login process will send a notification to your phone asking you to enter the 2 digit code shown on screen to access your account.
- Clicking "Done" will now take you to the Office 365 portal.
